    Kaleigh's Story

From the time I could walk my parents taught me what a gun was, how guns were looked at as a tool, and to always handle them with respect and care. It didn’t take long for my parents to recognize that I had a natural talent for shooting guns. They started me out on a Cricket .22 where I’d shoot at coke cans in a pasture, which slowly escalated to harvesting my first white-tail buck at 8 years old. By the time I was 8, it was clear I enjoyed shooting guns and never declined a challenge to make a difficult shot, whether hunting or messing around on the ranch.

When I entered sixth grade my parents came across a 4-H club that offered Shooting Sports which consisted of skeet, trap, 5-stand, and sporting clays. The first day of practice I was eager to start busting clays and show those “big kids” who could do it better. It didn’t take long for my high expectations to meet reality and I left the first practice crying saying, “I hate this and never want to come back.” It wasn’t until I was walking to my dad’s truck bawling that one of the youth coaches stopped me and made me dry my eyes. He told me I reminded him of his daughter the first time she tried the sport and pleaded for me to give it another chance. Next practice, I did just that and in the snap of a finger I became hooked on shooting clays and the competitive drive and passion to be the best was established.

Fast forward, I have now been shooting competitively for 12 years where I’ve had the opportunity to compete all over the United States as an individual and as a part of a National Team. Success came extremely early for me, tying the World Record for High-overall score for a female youth shooter at the Jr. World Championships at the age of 15. I was one of less than ten Female shooters to place on the open podium at the World Skeet Championships and many other victories in between.

However, for all the victories there has been double the number of disappointments and losses. The saying, “It’s hard to get to the top but even harder staying there” couldn’t be truer. What keeps me coming back is the drive and determination to be better. We are always our toughest critics. Though I am only 23 years old, I have several goals I have yet to achieve in my career and until those are achieved, I have made a promise to myself to continue to persevere through tough seasons and work diligently to become the best competitor I can be.

I am thrilled to be a part of such an amazing quality brand that I know will assist me in achieving my career goals. Aguila, alongside my other supportive sponsors, is a brand that manufactures only the best quality products that I can rely on shot after shot. Their shotgun shells are unparalleled, and I cannot wait to see what we as Team Aguila can achieve in the upcoming shooting seasons!
